
Handicraft involves making, transforming or repairing artistic and consumer goods. It can also be defined as the provision of services through the application of processes that rely heavily on the use of personal and technical skills. The resulting products should be one-off pieces, which cannot be manufactured industrially or in large series.
Any activity that bypasses any of the commonly accepted standard processes of the trades listed in the Handicrafts Directory cannot be considered a handicraft.
This accreditation is mainly intended for postgraduates and craftspeople who disseminate their trade through demonstrations and teaching activities. Individuals who carry out a handicraft activity in Catalonia may apply for this accreditation. They must be able to demonstrate that they have a full command of one of the trades in the Handicrafts Directory, that they have practiced the trade for at least two years or that they have an official Arts and Crafts Diploma.
The licence is valid for three years and may be renewed for a further three years, except in the case of individuals who are 65 or over, in which case it will be valid for life. In the case of holders of a residence permit that will run out before the expiry of the licence, renewal is not possible.
