The landscape and climate of Catalonia is wide and varied. It has benefitted from the many cultural contributions made over the centuries by the traditions of its craftsmen and the innovative spirit of its designers.
There are highly relevant and representative examples of craft activities in Catalonia. These activities originate from and are exclusive to different regions.
Unique Trades is a project that was set up to identify unique trades that have close ties to the town or region from which they originated.
The Unique Trades of Catalonia are listed by regions, processes and products. This classification depends on where the raw materials are found and where they are converted into the final products.
Catalonia currently recognises the following Unique Trades:
- ALABASTER from Sarral
- CERAMICS from La Bisbal
- BLACK CERAMICS from Quart and Verdú
- WOOD ENGRAVINGS from Sant Hilari Sacalm
- PALM CRAFTS from Terres de l'Ebre
- LACE from Arenys (RET-FI - lace made from cotton and linen) and l'Arboç
- SALT from Cardona
- XISQUETA WOOL from La Vall d'Àsua (under review)
This is an open project and, therefore, Artesania Catalunya does not rule out adding new "Unique Trades" if others emerge.
